Founder, Studio Beej
2019 started with a resolve to be more conscious of my actions and the impact that they have. Mid-way through that year, I hung up my boots on a long corporate career, with the intent to pursue something that resonated with my belief system but without much of a plan.
For the last 45 years, my family business has been in leather accessories; I was set to continue the legacy, but now, I wanted to do it differently. I began researching alternative sustainable materials and discovered a whole new world that I hadn't seen before. That was my turning point and the genesis of Beej. The more I saw, the more I believed that sustainability and style can and must co-exist.
The lack of options for conscious shoppers in India presented a huge opportunity. While there is a lot happening globally in the innovative materials space, there are only a limited Indian brands experimenting with them. I wanted to change that. At Beej, we pride ourselves on working with cutting-edge materials combined with Indian workmanship.
During this journey, I’ve been lucky enough to stumble across people who are on a similar path. They inspired and taught me, and many of their experiences helped me shape the vision for Beej.
I am excited to be a part of a growing community of brands, artists and consumers who are increasingly mindful of their practices and I believe that together we can make a meaningful shift to the way we view and consume fashion.
